On the 20th of March Alice Bobée met (virtually) Adrien Delespierre to discuss the internationalization of French engineering and business Grandes Écoles. The discussion provided a platform to question the concept of marketization with regards to the internationalization strategies of French higher education institutions. The extent to which admission procedures in French higher education institutions contradict or nuance the notion of educational market was for instance adressed, as well as how marketization tendencies apply to strategies of revenue diversification through campus export.
Sociologist specialized in the sociology of the elite, the internationalization of higher education and the neoliberalizing state, Adrien Delespierre analyzed in his PhD the reconfiguration of state nobility through the internationalization strategies of French engineering Grandes Écoles. He currently works as a Post Doc researcher at the Regional Observatory for Health (region PACA) – INSERM. He is also associate researcher at the School of European Center for Sociology and Political Sciences (CESSP-Paris) and at the at the ENS Cachan in the IDHES Laboratory.
